Top 3 Tips on Starting Your Own Spray Foam
Business
Do you want to start a successful spray foam insulation business without any prior experience? Here’s where to start:
The need for Spray Foam Insulators is only rising and even investors know it. Seriously. I can’t even count the number of automated emails I’ve received in the past couple of months from Google Alerts talking about it. Let me tell you right now, almost every one of those articles use phrases like “high demand for polyurethane spray foam” or “growing market” (don’t be afraid to reach out on Facebook if you want to set up alerts like these or get the links to any of these articles by the way). So with that in mind, we wanted to give you easy access to some tools, tips, and other important information you will need.
Step One: Finding your Niche
Spray Foam Insulation is a quickly growing field, which means a lot of opportunities but also a lot of competition. That’s why defining and excelling in your niche early on can be a huge benefit the more that you grow your business.
Take a look around. Do some local google searches. Check out the weekly money mag.
If you’re seeing that the local market is already saturated with residential/commercial insulation contractors, look to see how many of them are closed or open cell spray foam insulation, what their service window looks like,or if there are certain services they don’t offer such as crawlspace or attic insulation. You may still be able to enter the niche if you were so determined, but it might not be as profitable. Instead, you may want to look into Roofing or Foam Jacking, utilizing very similar equipment you can even add these services to an already profitable business
There are also some other niches you can look into. For example, a couple of our clients across the nation have decided to service the agricultural, livestock, and poultry industries as their main source of jobs. A typical day for them means spraying the interior of chicken coups and other agricultural buildings with high-density Foamsulate or Foamsulate 1000 Closed Cell Insulation to bring the buildings in line with updated livestock codes.
Breaking into the Agriculture niche is obviously highly dependent on where you live and the area in which you are planning to establish a business. A 2018 report from the US Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service included California, Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Indiana among the top producing states for agricultural products which can correspond to a lot of business for anyone interested in this niche.
In the end, choosing your niche is really all about putting your finger on the pulse point of your service area’s needs and finding the best way to reach out to them.
